Waterlogged Land's End Airport to remain closed
LAND'S End Airport remains closed to flights to and from the Isles of Scilly until at least Saturday following a runway inspection ay lunchtime today.
The airport has been waterlogged since last Saturday and all passengers, post and papers that were supposed to fly from Land's End are now being flown from Newquay.

The airport was due to re-open tomorrow but with further heavy rain falling on the already waterlogged ground last night, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, who own the airport, said the runway had not dried out sufficiently.

Latterly the vulnerable airport has been subjected to unprecedented levels of rainfall disrupting its regular flying schedules.
Flying reliability has historically been an issue at Britiain's most westerly mainland airport, but until recently it was more often fog, than rain, which stopped flights.
Islanders are now calling for a hard runway to be installed at the airport to avoid further disruption at a time when many are feeling cut off by transport issues.
Campaign group Friends of Isles of Scilly Transport (FRIST) have also renewed calls for government assistance for the islands' fragile transport links.
A Steamship Group spokesman said: "Skybus apologises for the inconvenience and all passengers are being notified. Anyone planning to travel during this time can contact Skybus on 0845 7105555."

“I do not understand this situation at all. How can the islands be deserted like this. If the airport is the only option for air travel, then an urgent upgrade to a tarmac runway be be number one priority. If this happened the options for improved links to islands would be enhanced. And as always, any factor that can bring income to the west must be considered. Is that difficult to see?”
