Weather threatens Boxing Day football
THE severe weather is likely to have a big impact on the Boxing Day local football fixtures – and the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League has already given clubs permission to postpone games today if necessary.
League secretary Phil Hiscox said: “With the weather conditions of the past few days and a forecast of showers for the next few days, the chairman and I have agreed a statement concerning the Boxing Day fixtures.
“We are both well aware that for some clubs these are financially important games and as such clubs will want to leave a decision as late as possible, therefore any club wishing to leave a decision until Boxing Day itself are more than welcome to, but should still make the decision before the away team travels.
“Where host clubs however know only too well that the games will not be able to go ahead due to clear pitch conditions we are allowing early postponements without a need for inspection.

“To facilitate this I will accept postponements from now until 4pm today on normal contact methods as I am at home. I am not keen on making such calls on Christmas Day itself but I will allow host clubs only to phone me between 4pm and 7pm on my mobile phone (077888 97706) on Christmas Day itself. Otherwise I will be at my desk from 8am on Boxing Day morning.
“Our main advice is - If you have a 50/50 chance of playing then feel free to leave the matter until Boxing Day, but if you know its going to be off, then make the call by 4pm today please.
“Matches scheduled for Saturday 28th December cannot be postponed until at least Friday 27th December.”
