Website delivers 'Droof' to the world
With American news channels CNN and ABC citing the Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site as among the "27 must-see places on the planet", there is more reason than ever to promote the area's industrial heritage to visitors, writes Simon Parker.
As part of a campaign to enable people in Cornwall and across the world to make the most of the rich stories and fascinating landscapes associated with Cornish mining, Redruth has launched a website dedicated to informing and entertaining. Visit Redruth (www.visitredruth.co.uk) highlights activities in the area and provides clear insructions on how people can access the WHS via walks, cycle paths and horse rides. The site also provides details on panning for gold, travelling on mine engines and finding art exhibitions and other.
Redruth town development manager, Lee Dunkley, said "Redruth has been on a journey through boom, bust and everything in between. Now it is placed proudly at the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Visit Redruth site and new Redruth visitor centre will help people interested in this rich history."
WHS partnership board chairman Julian German added: "Redruth provides a real and authentic base for exploring the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. With the launch of a new visitor centre and website, the town of Redruth has restyled itself as a key focal point for all things to do with the World Heritage Site and our team has been delighted to work alongside the Redruth team to bring all of this to the fore."
