EXCITEMENT is mounting at Nanstallon with the news that is new eco-friendly pre-school is officially opening on Saturday.

Between 1pm and 3pm everyone is invited to look around the new building, which the toddlers helped to lay the foundations for.

Local children's author Jill Murphy will be cutting the ribbon to formally open the venue and book signing.

Children winning a competition from the primary school will be unveiling a new sign which bears the logo of the new business and its very own Bob the Builder will be on site.

On arrival there will be a musical welcome from Bodmin College jazz band and Nanstallon primary school children along with members of the pre-school itself. Refreshments and a tour including question and answers with the staff and building architects from Arco2 will follow and there will be an assortment of children's activities including treasure hunt, face-painting and balloon modelling to be enjoyed.

The pre-school, which has been established previously for 20 years, will open as a new business in a new building on the site of the village primary school and will offer flexible care for children two years old to school age. Chairman of the pre-school, Paula Bolton said: "We are truly delighted to be opening such a beautiful purpose-built building.

"This will help us to deliver quality care which gives the children the opportunity to learn through play in a happy and secure environment."

The building is a sustainable eco-build designed by Arco2 of Dunmere and built by ECOFAB of Bodmin.

It boasts a sustainable organic construction, using sheep's wool and straw bales, and has many environmental benefits including being super insulated, breathable, minimal waste, lower embodied energy and constructed locally where possible using local resources.

Head of Nanstallon School, Peter Dingle said: "We look forward to working in even closer partnership with the pre-school.

"The new building is just what a modern pre-school should be and together we offer children in the area a wonderful start to their education."
