Werrington complete league and cup double
Werrington claimed their first Jolly's Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League title in the Camborne sunshine on Saturday evening.
The winning margin of eight wickets sounds comprehensive enough but it was not that easy as the home side fully played their part.
Having won the various other competitions in recent times, this was the "holy grail" for Ben Smeeth and his North Cornwall side. Just as they did in the 50/50 Cup final against St Just at the same venue in July, they chased down a target with sensible batting to land the league and cup double.
Camborne got off a good start, with Nick King making 23 as they got to 84 for two. The introduction of spin saw the wickets tumble, however, with Seb Street getting rid of Malcolm Pooley and Liam Weeks.

Luke Petersen made 22 but Street went on to take five for 32 and Ben Smeeth three for 20 in the 137 all out in 47.2 overs.
On a dry, turning pitch, Camborne opened with spinners Dan Stephens and Scott Harris and struck almost immediately. Stephens bowled Nick Ward in the third over and Street was bowled by Scott Harris at 23 for two in the 13th over, to set off the jitters amongst the visiting support.
The Smeeth brothers dug in, however, to add a patient unbeaten 118 over 40 overs, with the winning runs coming with over eight overs to spare. A second batting bonus point at 125 secured the title and the win meant the final margin was 13 points over St Just. Ben Smeeth ended on 64 not out and Alex Smeeth 54 not out.
The relegation issue was decided by tea-time as Paul got the four bonus points they required to relegate visitors Troon. Kelvin Snell made 47, Harvey James 36 and Andrew Snell 22 in the 186 all out. James Rowe took five for 38.
Troon ended 14 runs short of victory at 173 all out. Gavin Tregenza made 29 and Daniel Walker 21. Callum Donnelly took four for 30 and Matt O'Leary four for 45.
Callington finished third after beating St Austell at New Road by 95 runs. Matt Robins (78) and Jake Libby (65) were again in good form with an opening stand of 155. Joe Parkinson took three for 36 in the 225 for eight.
Taylor Williams made 45 and Matt Yates 32 in the St Austell reply of 130. Aidan Libby took four for 36 and Andrew Libby and Chris Davies three each.
Grampound Road were restricted to 131 for eight at Falmouth, with Trent McGrath making 31 and Chris Hunkin 25. Liam Hoban took three for 33. Falmouth then collapsed from 64 for none to 124 all out. Openers Richard Kellow made 36 and Adrian Noott 28. Ben Rowse and Trent McGrath shared eight wickets.
