West Briton runners complete ten week programme
OFFICE staff based at the West Briton's city headquarters have completed a ten week running programme to get fit and enjoy the great outdoors.Members of the newly formed West Briton Harriers, set up by reporter Beverly Coumbe last September, were offered free coaching and support through Run England.
The mother of two roped in a number of colleagues, including editor of Cornwall Today, Kirsty Newton, running in their lunch hour.
Mrs Coumbe said: "I used to run a lot before I had children, then it became difficult finding the time. The office on Malpas Road is in a fabulous location which means we have a number of routes along the estuary enjoying spectacular scenery. It's also been a chance to get to know people in the office better, we're a great team and keep each other motivated."
Lewis Sanders, Run Cornwall coordinator, said: "We launched Run Cornwall early last year, with funding received from England Athletics, and have so far been able to offer dedicated support to set up seventeen successful beginner running and walking groups across the county.

"We are delighted to help the West Briton team in starting their beginner running group by offering free coaching from a qualified run leader and as we have seen today, the team have definitely benefited from his guidance and support.
"We are still planning on increasing these numbers and to do so have invested in training new leaders who are all set to encourage and guide new participants to take up running in an enjoyable and sociable environment. Plus we are also able to offer groups coaching and leadership from qualified leaders if required."
There are currently Run Cornwall beginner running and walking groups happening in Truro, Bodmin, Falmouth, St Austell, Penzance, Roseland and Hayle, with more groups due to launch in Wadebridge, Torpoint, Newquay, Helston and various National Trust sites in upcoming months.
