Wheel's spinning for new Seasalt-backed bursary
CORNISH clothing company Seasalt has linked up with St Ives' world-renowned Leach Pottery to create a Seasalt bursary that will see someone offered the chance to train and study as a potter.
Founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Japanese artist Shoji Hamada, the Leach Pottery is now a UK charity.
As well as promoting the work and life of potter Bernard Leach, it also works to encourage the development of studio pottery and young talent through its studio and education programme.
Seasalt, originally founded in Penzance, has strong links to the west Cornish creative community and to St Ives. Now the firm will back the 12-month scheme to pay a potter through training at the famous studio.

Seasalt joint managing director Neil Chadwick said: "We've always loved and been inspired by St Ives and its artistic heritage. We've been involved with the Leach to some degree for many years and the Seasalt bursary feels like the next exciting step together."
Julia Twomlow, Leach Pottery director, said: "The Leach Pottery has always attracted potters, students and apprentices from across the world.
"We want to invite someone with no experience or skills in pottery but bags of enthusiasm and creativity and provide them with the best possible training experience to become a fully fledged potter."
The Leach Pottery will be inviting applications for the scheme shortly but will be looking for someone who is available for 12 months and "has natural enthusiasm and skill".
Seasalt is providing the bursary towards the establishment of this position on an annual basis.
