Widow claimed after remarrying

A WOMAN continued to claim her widowed parent's allowance after she had found and married a new partner, prosecutor Jo Martin told Truro Crown Court on Thursday.

Sharon Baddeley, 41, of Harbour View, Penryn, received about £11,000 to which she was not entitled, admitted failing to inform the authorities of the change in her circumstances.

Defence counsel Edward Bailey explained that Baddeley's husband had died of cancer, aged 36, in 2003, leaving her with two young sons.

Her claim for the benefit was perfectly genuine until she remarried.

Baddeley, he said, had medical problems which prevented her from working and her husband was on Jobseeker's Allowance.

The overpaid money was being clawed back at £9 a month.

Judge John Neligan imposed on Baddeley a two-year conditional discharge.
