FIVE hospital wards have been closed in latest Norovirus outbreak.

Health chiefs at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust are reporting a drop in the number of norovirus cases.Five wards remain closed to new admissions at the RCH in Treliske with two wards, one at RCH and one at the West Cornwall, having bays that have been isolated..

Visiting restrictions remain in place at all three hospitals - Royal Cornwall, West Cornwall and St Michael's - to only those patients who are critically ill. A hospital spokesperson thanked the public saying it had responded well to the call not to visit the hospital unless absolutely necessary.

The vast majority of planned surgery is still going ahead as scheduled and outpatient clinics are running as normal. Patients will be contacted by hospital staff if there is any change their appointment.

Patients, or those visiting someone who is critically ill, who have been unwell with sickness and diarrhoea themselves should stay away from hospital for at least 48 hours after symptoms have passed.

“Has this contamination prevention been offered to the NHS before Derek? Having been in Treliske this week for the birth of our lovely son we were fortunate to be on a maternity ward with very strict practices and fantastic staff but elsewhere on the site there seemed to be an air of uncertainty with the general public entering and leaving the hospital.”

“If someone from the HNS would like to contact me I will gladly explain to them that by using a HACCP's contamination prevention programme, which we all use in the food industry, they could eliminate these Norvirus problems.”

“My father in law is in Treliske with the Norovirus. One of the quickest ways for the norovirus to spread is through salad - guess what my father in law had 48 hours before norovirus gripped him - salad! That simple knowledge is on the internet for all medical people to read!”
