The pantomime will allow the young cast to get to grips with more mature roles and gain experience of performing comedy on stage.

"Pupils of the school will be using their skills to cope with the demands of character acting and the variety of dances," said Judith Lockwood-Urban, who established the school in 1990.

"The variety of dances, from character to classic, are all of a high standard, allowing the audience to enjoy atmosphere and the many colourful costumes."

She added that organising a pantomime took a lot of effort from all involved but the payoffs were obvious.

"It brings the school together to work as a unit, all with equal importance, and of course a pantomime allows them to have direct contact with the audiences," she said.

"It is a pleasure to see these youngsters develop through rehearsal. A full pantomime might be new to these kids but they have combined their talents to present a wonderful example of what young people can do when given purpose and direction.

"The school is proud of them, they have tackled a very demanding production with confidence and will enjoy entertaining their audiences."

Red Riding Hood is due to start its run at St John's Hall, Alverton Road, Penzance, this evening at 7.30pm.

There will also be performances tomorrow and Saturday at 7.30pm as well as a 2.30pm matinee on Sunday.

Tickets, available on the door, are priced at £8 for adults and £5 for children with £6 and £3.50 for Sunday's matinee.
