Two vehicles, a Travis Perkins lorry and a Volkswagen Bora, are thought to have been involved in the crash, between the Treliever roundabout and the recycling centre at Longdowns.
Devon and Cornwall Police later confirmed that a woman in her twenties, and who is thought to be from the Helston area of West Cornwall, was critically hurt and later died of her injuries.

The driver of the lorry, which careered headlong into a hedge and was left skewed across the road, was uninjured but later taken to hospital to be treated for shock in the aftermath of the fatal collision.
Police closed the road while specialist crash investigators examined the scene.
They advised motorists to avoid the route amid reports that the area was heavily congested.
Officers investigating the crash have now appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information to help with their inquiries.
