Woman dies after being swept out to sea
A WOMAN has died after she was swept out to sea today.
Despite a search by the emergency services, she was not found for an hour and a half.
The woman has not yet been offically named. The incident happened off the North Devon coast near Braunton.
A police spokesman said: “The coastguard was called at 11.24am after receiving reports that a woman had been swept out to sea at Croyde Bay.

“Despite search attempts by the coastguard, helicopter and lifeboat crews she was not found until she was removed from the water at around 1pm.”
He said she was airlifted to North Devon District Hospital where attempts to revive her were sadly unsuccessful.
The spokesman added: “She is thought to have been visiting the region on holiday with family and appears to have been swimming or surfing when the tragedy occurred.”
Police will now prepare a file on behalf of HM Coroner.
