A WOMAN was taken to hospital after being hit by a car while crossing a St Austell road.

Emergency crews were scrambled after the 22 year-old woman, who was listening to music through her headphones, was knocked down by a man driving a Citroen Berlingo, as she crossed Clifden Road, St Austell, on Sunday (Jan 6) evening.

She was checked by paramedics and then taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, with possible bruising to her back, police confirmed.

St Austell police inspector Stuart Gibbons said the driver was breathalysed at the scene and it was negative for alcohol.
