Woman has operation cancelled at last minute at Royal Cornwall Hospital
While the row over bed shortages at the Royal Cornwall Hospital rages on a 62-year-old woman is at home recovering from the ordeal of having her operation cancelled at the last minute.
Lynne Young had not eaten for a day and was sitting with a canula in her arm in preparation for major colo-rectal surgery when she was told her operation had been cancelled.
She said: “There was a knock on the door and a lady came in who introduced herself as the bed manager and she said the operation would not be going ahead because they did not have a bed for me.
“I said ‘you can’t do this’ and felt physically sick. I wondered if I could be dreaming.”

Mrs Lynne, from Indian Queens, who works for a disability charity, said her sick pay had run out and her self-employed husband had lost money through booking the week off unnecessarily.
She said: “There are more consequences to people and their lives and they can’t be allowed to do this.
“It’s not beyond their capabilities to come up with a solution to stop this from happening to others.”
