Yachtsman calls for help
ST IVES' volunteer lifeboat crew went to the aid of a lone yachtsman whose boat was taking on water in strong winds.
The drama unfolded after the the skipper of the 42ft yacht Blue Mango called the coastguard.
The St Ives lifeboat The Princess Royal was launched just after 6am on Friday with coxswain Paul Whiston at the helm, and battled through wind and spray to the scene five miles north-east of Godrevy.
By the time the lifeboat crew found the Blue Mango she was making way under engine power and the skipper confirmed that his bilge pump was now working again.
He continued on to Padstow and the lifeboat returned to shore, reaching harbour shortly before 8am.
Derek Hall, RNLI volunteer press officer for St Ives, said: "After reaching Padstow, the boat's skipper made contact with the St Ives lifeboat station to pass on his thanks to the volunteer crew for coming out to make sure that he was OK."
