Young Bridgers make Tavistock work hard
Tavistock 2
Tavistock's fifth consecutive league victory was not as straightforward as the final score suggests as a young Wadebridge outfit made them work hard for the whole 90 minutes of this premier division game at Langsford Park, writes Mike Sampson.
Bridgers manager Mike Beckett said: “I don't think we deserved to win the game as
Tavistock were a little bit slicker than us on the night but having said that I was pleased with the character shown by the players as they battled on for the 90 minute period.
"I did think there were two crucial refereeing decisions that didn't go in our favour as there was a definite handball in the Tavistock area, in the second half, at a key moment of the game, and my players were also convinced that Tavistock should have been reduced to 10 men in the first half when Martin Cook was scythed down
by Glynn Hobbs off the ball in the first half.”
Tavistock's first goal came on 29 minutes when Hobbs crossed to the far post where Michael Landricombe headed it back into the middle for Marc Conday to lash past Ellis Glassup from 12 yards.
It was not until 20 minutes from time that Tavistock finally grabbed their second as Lee Blatchford crashed a 20 yard free-kick through the Bridgers’ wall into the bottom corner of the goal.
In the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west, Penryn Athletic beat Cornwall Senior Cup finalists Camelford 3-0.
