Young Cornish actresses audition in Truro for the role of Demelza in new Poldark series
Young actresses in Cornwall will be hoping to impress TV bosses in Truro today as auditions for a remake of the BBC series Poldark get underway.
Girls from across the county are auditioning at the Merchant House Hotel for a chance to play the “strikingly beautiful” servant Demelza who catches the eye of the head of the house Ross Poldark.
Demelza Williams from Flushing, near Falmouth, was one of the girls hoping to shine at today’s auditions.
“It would be amazing if I got the part – especially because I’ve got the same name as her,” the 17-year-old said.

Miss Williams, who had a small part in Doc Martin over the summer, was one of dozens of girls shortlisted to audition for the lead role.
The youngster, who has been acting since she was a child said the role would be her “dream job”.
“My sister is called Morwenna, who is another character in the series, and I have an uncle called Ross,” she explained.
“And my granddad knew Winston Graham,” she added.
“There are lots of strange connections."
The hopefuls, aged between 17 and 20, will find out if they have made it to the next stage on Tuesday.
The actress must have dark hair or be willing to have her hair dyed and also cannot be in full-time education due to the demands of filming.
Poldark will be shot at locations in Cornwall later this year, as well as at studios in Bristol.
