Young fencer wins national competition
A YOUNG fencing star is well on the road to the Olympics after becoming the national champion for her age group.
Jenny Ellis, aged 11, was congratulated by Falmouth's mayor Geoffrey Evans after winning her category at the England Youth Fencing Championships.
Jenny won six out of the seven duals in the initial round robin and went on to win the final, earning her the title of England under-11 girls' sabre champion.
She was cheered on by a big crowd and was "delighted" to have brought the title back to Falmouth.
Mr Evans said: "Jenny is a future star of the Olympics and I look forward to seeing her represent Falmouth and Great Britain at the 2020 Olympic Games."
Jenny trains with the Truro Fencing Club and was ranked eighth in the country at the start of the competition.
Her next competition will be in Wellington, Somerset.
