Young invited to orchestra's Christmas warm-up
Aspiring young musicians are being invited to go behind the scenes and see how a large amateur symphony orchestra prepares for a concert.
The Exeter Music Group (EMG) is hosting an open rehearsal aimed at children and young people learning to play an orchestral instrument.

The free event will provide an opportunity to meet the players and to sit among the orchestra during a rehearsal.
They are being invited to experience the music from the players' perspective as the group prepares for its Christmas concert, featuring seasonal favourites such as extracts from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Prokofiev's Trioka.

Ellen Stratton, of EMG symphony orchestra, said: "We're giving schoolchildren and young people the opportunity to get up close and personal with a live orchestra.
"It's open to both those who are learning an instrument and those who have not yet experience of orchestra playing.
"It's vital to get young people interested in music and to educate them about the many opportunities out there. We're trying to demystify classical music and generate interest in learning about music. It's a great opportunity for anyone."
The open rehearsal will take place at 7.30pm on November 8 at St Peter's School in Exeter. All under-16s should be accompanied by an adult.
The original EMG was founded in 1967. The EMG symphony orchestra now perform at venues in and around Exeter, including the University Great Hall and Exeter Cathedral.
