Young sailors in national contest final
The outstanding boat handling skills of two Devon youngsters have earned them a place in the final of a national competition.
Paddy James, 14, and 10-year-old Finn Boyan Irvine, cadets with the Royal Western Yacht Club in Plymouth, will compete at the Honda Royal Yachting Association Youth Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Championship which is being staged at the Southampton Boat Show on September 15.
Both children, from Plymouth College, already have extensive experience driving RIBs with friends and family in the South West.
After qualifying in the 13-16 age group, Paddy said: "It was great fun, but quite tricky, a lot harder to drive around the course than it looks."

"I really enjoyed it," Finn, who will compete in the 8-12 age group competition, added. "I can't wait to drive in the finals."
The event is a national championship in which young RIB drivers can demonstrate their skills with the goal of winning a 4.8 metre Ribcraft or a Honwave T40 for their club.
Roger Irvine, an RYA senior instructor at the Royal Western Yacht Club, said: "This event was a fantastic opportunity for local children to show their skills at driving RIBs.
"It's not as easy as it looks, with a challenging slalom style course, where driving skills are really tested. I'm really pleased that the Royal Western Yacht Club has qualified in both age groups."
