Youngsters hedge their bets with a day on the land
WADEBRIDGE School pupils have been getting their hands dirty to help build native mixed hedging.
The vocational pathway students have been helping create a windbreak at the Camel Community Supported Agriculture scheme at St Kew Highway.
The group – a mix of vocational study groups from agricultural to mechanics – enjoyed themselves out in the fresh, winter air.
The school has forged close links with the local community both through the curriculum and with the expansion of many joint use facilities. These links have been increased even further since the school's successful application for Business and Enterprise status in 2003.
Deputy head Lee Bateman said: "These students are helping to plant a mixed hedge of hawthorn, blackthorn, dog rose and hazel. We also have a large allotment plot which the school is developing not far from the school premises. Wadebridge School is very community focused and we encourage our students to actively get involved with community projects."
