Youth groups benefit from Penzance Rotary Ramble
FOR the first time in its seven year history, the rain failed to stay away for the annual Rotary Ramble, organised by Penzance rotarians.
Nevertheless about 120 people turned out at Rosudgeon Social Club for a choice of either a four or seven-mile hike around the coastline at Perranuthnoe.
The event is designed as a community fundraiser with local groups and charities taking 75 per cent of any sponsorship monies and the rest going to Rotary charities – this year Prostrate Cancer UK and Penhaligon’s Friends.
As usual, the Ramble is popular among youth groups and once again Penzance Gymnastics Club provided a strong presence.

Other youth groups taking part included the Pirates Under 11 rugby team, who were raising funds for their spring trip to a rugby festival in Minehead, Penzance Madron Beavers, collecting for Angela Peake’s ACE charity for children in Uganda and the StageStruck theatre group, raising funds ahead of their forthcoming production of Grease.
But there were also plenty of individuals who were walking for chrity as well as Helston rotarians and ladies from Trinity Church, Newlyn.
Jon Symons, from the Rotary Club of Penzance, said: “Considering we had fog all morning and rain all afternoon, it was a pretty good turn out.
“I’d especially like to thank the event sponsor, the Carpet & Homestore at Long Rock for their generous contribution which enabled the event to go ahead.”
