A Praa Sands beach lifeguard was honoured for rescuing a man from drowning.

The 19-year-old saved a man who though he was a good swimmer, got into difficulties in heavy seas after about half an hour of being in the water.

A St Just television company had secured a prestigious coup as two of its latest programmes were set to be shown on national television on Christmas morning.

Spider Eye Limited's first programme to be shown was its BAFTA-award-winning War Game.

The show was based on a book by St Ives author Michael Foreman.

It looked at the famous First World War incident when English and German soldiers downed their weapons, left their trenches and joined each other for a game of football on Christmas day.

The second show set to be shown was A Small Miracle, dedicated to the memory of a local animator.
