CRICKET: After scoring 1,494 first-class runs this year, Somerset batsman Nick Compton was announced as the NatWest Professional Cricketers' Association Player of the Year for 2012 in London on Thursday. Current Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick took the prize in 2011, to add to his previous successes in 2000 and 2009. Compton, who has been selected in England's Test squad to tour India this winter, also collected the Cricket Writers' Player of the Year trophy this week.
