Blogging mum from west Cornwall to kick off nationwide charity relay in odd shoes
A BLOGGER and mum from west Cornwall is kicking off a nationwide relay alongside fellow parents, children and others to raise money for this year’s Sports Relief.
Pippa Best, who runs the online community Story of Mum, is embarking on the first leg of a 3,000 mile Land’s End to John o’Groats challenge on Sunday morning, setting off from the landmark before handing over the baton to the next participant in Truro.
Ms Best and her Cornish contingent are set to adorn odd shoes on their stage of the journey - each group is tasked with doing something "wacky" - as they team up with blogging network Team Honk, who set up the mission and called for support.
Ms Best said the idea has steadily grown and the charity fundraiser is a great way to involve families and increase awareness of global issues - she also praised Team Honk for getting so many people involved.

“What they have done is pull together 150 different bloggers across the country,” she explained.
“We’re representing the first blog - we’re starting at Land’s End and all of us are getting through each stage in all sorts of ways. We’re all doing something odd too, which is why we’ll be in odd shoes.”
Ms Best said she was excited about the project and hopes as many people join in to raise the team’s £500 target for the cause, which has an overall figure of £20,000 in sight.
The mum, who also works as a script consultant and lives in Penzance, explained her team is set to drive from Land’s End before hobbling along the Prom from Newlyn to make the 11am train up to Truro.
“I think Sports Relief do some amazing things, so it’s great to show support. It will also be great fun.”
One of the project’s instigators is fellow blogging mum Tanya Barrow, based in Hampshire. She said some of the most adventurous on the trip will see participants travel by plane, on roller skates, in kayaks and even swimming their way to the finish line.
“Our fundraising started last year when I contacted Emma Freud on Twitter - from there we were invited to her office and ended up going to Ghana to find out more and throughout the year did lots of things to raise money.
“We wanted to do something a bit different and sporty as this year it’s Sports Relief - and we thought Land’s End to John o’Groats would be great. It’s iconic. I came down to visit last year and it seemed so natural.
“I can’t wait to get going,” she added.
