Dancers are set to give their most spectacular show yet
It features more than 220 dancers in a sumptuous production showcasing the very best talent around, from those ready for their first professional show to those stepping onto the stage for the very first time aged just three.
Variety is the motto of the show, not just in terms of the age range of people on stage, but in the dance forms covered. There is a Spanish pointe ballet with 18 teenagers in beautiful fiery tutus which are being especially made; a flamenco number that will bring the flavour of the Spanish fiesta to life, with swishing skirts, bright earrings, roses, fans and shawls all to the music of the Gypsy Kings; a 'showtime' section saluting all the greats of Broadway including Bob Fosse and a beautiful lyrical contemporary piece to Rain, by Madonna.
The younger members of the school are stepping onto stage for the first time with tap, ballet and jazz numbers where they are, among other things, pirates and characters from Mary Poppins.
A favourite with the performers is the hip-hop girls' and boys' section.
Inspired by Diversity, the boys' group is doing its own number to Big Brovaz, followed by Here Come the Girls where the girls are dressed in pink and sparkly costumes to strut their stuff, the seniors do a breathtaking number to Gwen Stefani's Wind it Up, and finally they come together in It's Tricky by Run DMC.
The Bev-Lyn School of Dancing was established in 1964 and is run by mother and daughter team Beverly Matthews and Melissa Glover. They have students who come from all over Cornwall, including Truro, The Lizard and Newquay.
"It takes hard work and commitment to produce something like Get a Move On," said principal Beverly.
"The excitement backstage and the exuberance onstage are a testament to our dancers' and teachers' love of dancing.
"For all of our exam successes, performances like this are what make us most proud of what we achieve."
Melissa said: "We wanted to put together a show that would excite our students and give them a memory that they'd carry with them throughout their childhood years, while also giving audiences a performance that will leave them buzzing.
"We put on a huge show like this every four years and people are always amazed at the talent and high standard that we produce. Certainly we are always told that our senior students compare to any professional show."
The production team have been planning the show for over a year and getting this many performers on stage in a seamless show takes organisation on a military scale.
"We can't wait for it all to come together on stage; the stunning costumes, great choreography, fantastic music but most of all the phenomenal talent that we have.
"I urge people whether they have a connection with the school or not, to turn off their televisions and come and see Cornwall's talent. I guarantee it will be the best £10 they will have spent all year and will give everyone on and off stage the biggest adrenaline rush," said Beverly.
Get a Move On will be at the Regal Theatre, Redruth on July 3 (6pm); July 4 (1.30 and 6pm) and July 5 (1.30pm). The box office is on 01209 216278. Tickets cost £10 and £8.
