Top chef shows children how to dish up fish
A SCHOOL of fish appeared in Newlyn last week as hake pasties were had by all.
Sanjay Kumar, of The Headland Hotel in Newquay, visited Newlyn Primary School to run a cooking class with pupils on Friday.
Working with his four trainees, who jumped on board at last month’s fish festival and so were chosen to assist Mr Kumar on the day, he showed the students how to prepare and cook the seaside treat.
The chef’s recipe for a ‘Fishy Wishy Paper Pasty’ used hake, served en papillote - a traditional French method of baking inside sealed paper - and was dished up with a salad to plate up a healthy alternative to Cornwall’s traditional lunch.

Teacher Jo Fitzgerald said it was a great day for the children.
“He volunteered after meeting some of them at the fish festival - I think it’s great that someone like him would give up his time for the children,” she said.
“It was a really good experience. They all had a bit and even tried radishes.”
Miss Fitzgerald explained that nutritional, sustainable food was on the menu.
“Mr Kumar talked about how to cook healthy food and source local produce,” added the teacher.
“He talked about fish and what goes with it - the children were given the recipe to take home and cook.”
