School's top academic achievers enjoy their star turn

TOP students at Tretherras School were praised for their academic performance at the Star Awards this week.

Held at Newquay Sports Centre on Thursday, the awards evening saw students in Years 7, 8 and 9, rewarded for their efforts in a host of subjects.

The annual event saw two guest speakers present students with their awards – Matt Whorwood, who scooped bronze and silver medals at the 2008 Paralympics and Rebecca Gould, who recently achieved a first class degree at Oxford University. Awards were:

Year 7: Art – Jade Oakley; DT – April Norfolk, Adam Bavly; English – Jordan Edgecombe; French – Daisy Phillips; geography – Daisy Phillips; history – Davy Roderick; ICT – Fiona Blunt; maths – Daisy Phillips; music – Lee Perry; PE – Emily Harbisher, Harrison Cully; PSHE – Jordan Edgecombe; RE – Seamus Merrin; science – Harry Stallard.

Year 8: Art – Danielle Lye; DT – Athena Nicholas, Jack Nichols; drama – Jordan Scotland; English – Holly Chapple; French – Katie Yeomans; geography – Hannah Jones; history – Isabel Cranwell; ICT – Charlotte Cooke; maths – Callum Shaw; music – Zoe Mitchell; PE – Kayleigh Brown, Sam Fearon; PSHE – Finlay Bell, RE – Finlay Bell; science – Sam Furse, Spanish – Jack Derbyshire.

Year 9: Art – Ellie Cook; DT – Karensa Hawkey, Luke Margetts; drama – Rose Robinson; English – Alice Maffey; French – Evelyn Blacklock; geography – Olivia Dunlop; history – Daniel Lackey; ICT – Aishling Dean; maths – Joanne Hudspeth; music – Jamie Gifford; PE Lauren Norton, Matt Sanders; PSHE – Olivia Dunlop, RE – Lewis Banks, science – Olivia Dunlop, Spanish – Olivia Dunlop.

Year 9 – Christopher Swallow and Olivia Dunlop.

Head teacher's award – English: Luke Margetts, science: Alex Macintyre, maths: Aishling Dean.

Overall: Olivia Dunlop, Jenny Morgan Memorial Award – Natasha Cheadle.
