Youth theatre group looking for new home
The volunteers and 20 young members, who rehearse in the St John's Ambulance hall on Rawlings Lane, had hoped of using the Old Station Master's House at Caffa Mill, but plans to convert it were dropped.
Now members are hoping someone may come forward with an idea for a secure, long-term rehearsal area.
Funnybone volunteer, Jane Vincent said: "Funnybone will be looking for a new abode. Right now we are running workshops on Sunday afternoons for the young people. The hall is also used by the Troy Players and bridge club.
"There's a real shortage of places to use in Fowey.
"We have got scenery and so many things which we can't keep using people's garages for."
Twinkle Carter is due to come into ownership of the St John's Ambulance Hall following the death of her father John Treffry last year.
She said: "I'm definitely not putting it on the market. They may be looking for a new place to rehearse, as if it takes two years to find somewhere. If they start looking now, it gives them more time to do it."
She said the group uses the hall for a peppercorn rent of £1 a year.
Funnybone chairman Ken Jones said: "We didn't have anywhere to go and Twink kindly said we could use the hall. She has been one of our biggest supporters and lets us have it at a peppercorn rent."
He confirmed they were looking for somewhere more permanent and a couple of people had come forward with ideas, but he said it was too soon for the group to agree to any offers yet.
Helen O'Shea and her husband John own the land next to the St John's Ambulance building. She said: "From the deeds, the land and perhaps building originally belonged to the Treffry family and was eventually sold, or gifted to the British Red Cross.
Fowey resident, Marilyn Wellman said: "It would be nice to see the hall kept for community use as there are so few other places in Fowey."
