Top show comes up smelling of roses

HUGE onions and beautiful blooms were just some of the delights on show at the 83rd St Merryn Gardening Society annual show.

As well as all the usual goodies on display this year there was also a number of bright scarecrows made by groups of pupils from St Merryn School.

The best scarecrow winners were Levi, Louie, Daniel and Oliver.

There were also two special children's classes for the cover design of the 2010 show catalogue. Oliver Stevens won the front cover design and Elliot Stevens won the back cover. Secretary David Kendall said: "Entries were unfortunately down on last year but we still had a good display." Winners were as follows:

Stanley Old Memorial Cup for Best exhibit in Cookery: Lynn Martin.

Mrs M Hellyar Challenge Cup for Most points in Children's Cookery section (11 to 16): Oliver Stevens.
