Revamp scheme nears completion with play area upgrades set to start
Bull Engine in St Blazey and the Treverbyn Recreation Ground in Stenalees will see existing outdated equipment replaced with a series of exciting and challenging activities for children of all ages.
The improvements, part of a massive programme being carried out by Restormel Borough Council, are being undertaken by international play equipment specialist HAGS which has been appointed to transform nine play areas across the borough – three in St Austell, one apiece in Stenalees, Penwithick, St Blazey and Mevagissey and two in Newquay.
Work begins in mid-September and is due for completion a month later, weather permitting. Councillor Shirley Polmounter, cabinet member for community affairs, said: "With work on the play areas delayed because of the rainy summer, it's great to see the parks nearing completion.
"These two parks form the final piece of the play area improvement programme jigsaw and will be a tremendous boon to youngsters and parents living in these areas.
"Not only will they offer plenty of opportunity for play – something for which we find little time these days – they also help keep our young people fit and healthy by burning calories and toning muscles, provide an excellent chance for social interaction and fire the imagination through role play. "We're delighted to have been able to make this investment and feel sure it will be welcomed by many."
