Band plays on while group cleans Cornwall
The Penzamba band played the cleaners on while they tackled a 500-metre stretch, filling 20 black bags, weighing 30kgs in total.
This is equivalent to the weight of more than 2,500 drinks cans. Litter-pickers were also asked to fill in a survey on behalf of the Marine Conservation Society, which recorded even the smallest pieces of litter, including cigarette stubs, lollipop sticks and sweet wrappers.
Although there was less litter on the beach than in previous years, organisers said there was still a long way to go to make beaches clean of all unwanted rubbish.
Organiser Guy Doncaster said: "We would like to thank all those people who helped us – the work done at the beach clean is really important, both in making our local environment more attractive, and removing pieces of litter that may be harmful to marine or bird life."
