No time for talk over T at Redruth
Thursday, November 20, 2008, 12:28
The Reds head coach remains pragmatic, despite what has been the best ever start to a campaign in Redruth's history.
Last week's 15-5 win at home to Tynedale maintained Redruth's 100% record as they moved seven points clear at the top of the table.
But with the season almost at the halfway point, Hambly knows that with 15 games still to play, there is still much to play for this season.
He revealed: "There has been no mention of the 'T' word at all in the dressing room, what is it? I will have to look it up in the dictionary!
"It only takes one bad month and then suddenly we're back in the melting pot with everybody else.
"We've got some very difficult games coming up, starting with Cambridge next Saturday."
With this weekend's programme of EDF Energy National Trophy games taking place, Redruth are without a fixture.
But it will be a break Hambly will be making full use of ahead of next week's visit of an out of sorts Cambridge side.
Having occupied second place for much of the campaign, Cambridge have slipped down to fourth in the table after losing three of their last four league games.
But Hambly warned: "They are going to come flying at us. They haven't had the best of results of late but they will be desperate to prove themselves against us.
"We will make full use of this break we have, recharge our batteries and make sure we're ready for Cambridge next week."
Meanwhile, director of rugby David Penberthy made an appeal for sponsorship before saturday's win over Tynedale.
In response to the RFU's controversial plans to introduce a professional 12-team 'Championship' to replace National League One next season, Penberthy has expressed his financial concerns over the proposals.
"I have done the basic sums and I have worked out that it would cost about £1.25 million for a squad and professional coaches and staff," said Penberthy.
"But many of our players hold down full time jobs they would not want to give up, and I have a responsibility to look after them."
