THIS YEAR'S annual Boscastle Food and Craft Festival, taking place on October 6 and 7, has something to whet everyone's appetite.

Opening with a gala evening on Thursday, October 4 and running from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday, it has an impressive line-up of well-known chefs taking part, a host of cookery and craft demonstrations and activities for all to enjoy.

Launched seven years ago, after the devastating floods of 2004, the annual Boscastle Festival is organised by the local community.

Originally designed to be a means of communicating that Boscastle was back and open for business, the event has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the highlights of Cornwall's food and drink events calendar.

Each year the event raises money for local clubs and associations within the village and more than £25,000 has been raised since the first festival in 2005. This year, Boscastle's recently re-launched Waterloo Restaurant will be sponsoring the event, with head chef of The Waterloo, Isaac Robb, leading the cooking demonstrations on Saturday, October 6.

Events will take place throughout the village during the two days, with the main events being held in a large marquee in the centre of the village. It will showcase the best Cornwall has to offer in terms of fabulous local produce and there will be cookery demonstrations from ten of Cornwall's top-rated chefs, including Rick Stein and Nathan Outlaw.

Michal Parsons, chairman of the organising committee said: "Our 2012 festival is shaping up to be a great event. We are delighted that we are being supported by the Waterloo Restaurant this year, and thrilled that their new head chef, Isaac Robb, will be the first to demonstrate his skills.

"This event is different from many other food festivals.

"We launched it to both promote and support the local community and that is still the case today. It's wonderful that the event has grown into one of the best food, drink and craft events in Cornwall and I am sure that this year will be bigger and better again. We have lots planned for this year and will be announcing our full chef line up and programme soon."

Aside from the food and chef's cookery demonstration programme, there will be a beautiful and diverse range of Cornish crafts too.

There will be nearly a dozen activities and 60 stalls for visitors to enjoy, alongside two open gardens and the ever stunning National Trust locations at Boscastle to explore.
