Fire crews rescued a trapped man from a burning house in Somerset during the early hours of yesterday. The fire at Ash Grove, Shepton Mallet, broke out at 12.55am at the bottom of the stairwell, preventing the man from escaping. Two fire engines were sent to deal with the incident following reports of a fire at the house. When they arrived crews escorted the man from the property before handing him over to paramedics. Fire chiefs described the flames as "small" and said two members of the team put them out with a hose reel jet.
