'No decision yet' on fate of Poltair Community Hospital
NO DECISION has yet been taken on the future of Poltair Community Hospital at Madron, says NHS Kernow.
Public consultation begins next month on options developed following a review of all services offered by the clinical commissioning group.
This will include the cottage hospital, where in-patient beds were closed last October. Peninsula Community Health, the community interest company which runs the hospital, said the move was temporary and blamed it on staffing problems, though MP Andrew George has said it clearly signals the hospital is fated to close.
Marazion GP Neil Walden, NHS Kernow's local lead, said: "I want to reassure the public no decision has been made about the hospital's future.

"We want people to engage in this consultation, which has come about from having a very honest discussion with people in Penwith about what health services are important to them. During our review they told us that they wanted a decision to be made on Poltair's future, which is what we're consulting on."
The public will be asked for their views on a range of options developed in consultation with Peninsula Community Health, the hospital's League of Friends and other community bodies to identify priorities.
The review, focused on the care of the elderly, made a number of recommendations including strengthening nursing in the community, improving health support and services delivered in care homes and people's own homes, and more joining up of services between health and social care.
The 12-week consultation has not yet begun, but at this stage comments can be directed to the Engagement Team, NHS Kernow, Sedgemoor Centre, Priory Road, St Austell, PL25 5AS or e-mailed to email@example.com
