Firefighters were called out on Saturday morning following reports, received from a boat on the Helford River, of a house on fire at Calamansack, near Porth Navas.

Two appliances and a Land Rover from Falmouth raced to the scene and found the building well alight.  Fire crews used four breathing apparatus and two hoses, whilst carrying out a search of the ground floor of the property, a wooden house. A water carrier was requested from Helson and Wadebridge station, together with a further appliance from Camborne. Due to location difficulties, a local farmer assisted fire crews with accessing the premise and helping to move equipment.

By midday the fire had spread to the upper part of the building and was being tackled by around 40 crew who were by now at the scene. Work continued until Saturday evening in damping down and investigating the cause of the fire. The house is severely damaged but no-one was hurt.
