“A study by the Wellcome Trust, led by Sir Walter Bodmer and published on Channel 4's Faces of Britain in April 2007, showed that the Cornish people have a particular variant of the Melanocortin 1 receptor gene, identifying them as Celts more closely related to the Welsh than to the English. Within the areas of the UK studied, this gene appeared in 26 per cent of the population of Orkney, 23 per cent of Devon, 21 per cent of Wales, 16 per cent of Cornwall, 13 per cent of Kent, and 11 per cent of North East England.”

“Big_Ger. So, the Devon folk win the battle of the Celtic gene in England & Wales!
Many historians say they cannot distinguish between the Dumnoii and Cornovi tribes. Some even go so far as to say the Dumnoii (central base in Exeter) lived throughout the length and breadth of Devon & Cornwall, and the Cornovi tribe did not exist at all - a great deal of scientific research would seem to support that view. Strange then the Nationalists hate the concept of Devonwall, or our Police HQ being located in Exeter. Surely, that takes us back to our real Celtic roots - the Tamar wasn't a barrier then, and it isn't a barrier today.
    Thus common sense prevails!”

“interesting post Alistairtruro, any idea when the results will be published?

Taxman100 not really sure what ancient history should have to do with 21st century government, after all the times of the Dumonivi and Cornovi was the time when most of Europe, Kernow included was ruled from Rome. By the same logic should we be looking for reunification with Italy?”

“As far as I am concerned ancient history has nothing to do with Cornwall in the 21st Century. I have repeatedly said Cornwall should look to the future, not the past. However, the point I was making was that the Cornish Nationalists continue to refer to their ancient past, including the Celtic gene, when making their various claims for National status. Cornwall is a County within England.”

“Oh sorry must have read your previous comment wrong Taxman100, I agree with you though Cornish politics should look to the future. We should look to how we can make a richer more self confident nation for ourselves, regardless of ancient historical tribes.”

“All mention of D.N.A. linked with Cornish nationalism leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Smacks of eugenics and Aryan "elitism".”
