“A lot of questions there T_K they mostly revolve around the greed of developers and the limp wristed attitude of planners ordered from above to encourage rapid politically expediant growth at any cost.

You think its bad now... just wait til all those thousands of extra homes are built around Truro and the massive extra volumes of stormwater run off that results tries to drain through Truro or Calenick on a high spring tide.

Also bear in mind that this is not actually a freak storm merely a deep depression... an seasonal Atlantic weather system that delivers gales and heavy rain as they have done since time immemorial... if developers choose to build on flood plains and planners let them... the occupants of those properties must be prepared accept the consequences.

I am beggining to wonder if developers that create these problems for third parties are actually liable for the conditions they create... it would make an interesting court case.

Remember also that we will always get weather of some description and it will always average out in the long term wet ... dry... hot ... cold... stormy ... calm... Cornwall is influenced by a maritime climate of great diversity which despite all the scaremongering and sensationalism actually delivers a very benign ******ble climate.”

“With any new development it needs the correct provisions put into place to take the surplus rainwater, adequate storm drains etc, with Cornwall the drainage shouldn't be such a big problem with not being too far from the sea in any direction, so the surplus rainwater can be channelled or piped direct out of harms way.”

“@ youngcornwall - in theory and on paper possibly so. But in practice and as shown by the hundreds evacuated this past couple of days, reality shows a different take.

Unless, of course, there is a conspiracy at the Met Office?”

“The usual silly and trite comments from 'faux Conishman Trevorrow' whose very existence here is a mockery of the real Trevorrow family and the not so young Mr Harvey from Birmingham who was last in this country two years ago.

“Conspiracy at the Met Office???... dhoooo!!!.. what does it matter... the weather is pretty awful and people are suffering the misery of flooding... in Devon there have been deaths perhaps we ought to be expressing sympathy rather than silly unfunny comments about conspiricies.

Thes people make me despair they are so petty and stupid.

    Onenn hag hal!”
