A drop of Lebanese
IF YOU enjoy the different styles and flavours of wines from around the world then Lelant Wine company Scarlet Wines could be the place for you in 2012.
Scarlet has announced three new wine tasting evenings which will bring some of the world's most renowned and even unusual wine producing countries to West Cornwall.

Launching the 2012 tastings on Friday, February 24, will be an evening dedicated to Lebanese wines. While it may only be 200 miles long by 50 miles wide, according to Scarlet owner Jon Keast, Lebanese vineyards are producing some excellent reds and whites, which will be sampled on the night.
In March the focus will turn to a more traditional wine producer – Italy – followed in May by an evening of wines from the South of France.
"Last year's events were a great success and gave people the opportunity to not only indulge their love of wine but broaden their understanding of the different styles of wine from specific countries and regions.
"We wanted to kick off this year's tastings with something a little more unusual and felt the Lebanese wines would be perfect. Very few people will have tried Lebanese wines – which has just 36 wineries – but they are a delight, with a lot of French influences in the wines they produce, perhaps not surprising given the country was colonised by France.
"After that we will be moving on to Italy and will be enjoying some fantastic wines from across the country before we turn our attention to the South of France," said Jon.
In addition to the wines, there will also be tasting plates of food from the wine producing countries in question that match the wines being sampled perfectly.
