Off duty life guards rescue surfer at Porthtowan
OFF duty lifeguards have rescued a surfer who had got into difficulty at Porthtowan this evening.
It is understood at least two lifeguards, who are members of the Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club, launched their inshore life boat after spotting the surfer around 6pm.
Falmouth Coastguard confirmed they had been contacted about the incident but did not assist with the incident.
A spokesperson said: “We were contacted by the surf life saving club. Off duty life guards spotted a surfer in trouble and they managed to rescue the person.
“The whole situation was over in around 20 minutes. They had it all firmly under control.
“A huge credit to the life guards for acting so quickly.”
The surf was reported to be around four foot today with swells of up to five foot at Porthtowan.
