A MINI-FESTIVAL will be held in Polruan as a boost to Fowey's Daphne du Maurier Festival – and support is continuing to grow.

The parish will stage its own mini-festival to take place during the final few days of this year's du Maurier Festival, from May 18 and 19 in Fowey.

The Sunnyside Festival, a reference to the old rivalry between Fowey and Polruan which led to Fowey being known locally as the "Moneyside" and Polruan as the "Sunnyside", is the joint brainchild of Polruan's resident playwright and festival organiser, Tony Cottrell, and Chris Alexander, the Hall For Cornwall's technical director, who also lives in the village.

The latest show of support is a grant from the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) – an organisation which makes small grants to organisations which are seen to be making a positive impact in their particular area of the duchy.

The donation will ensure local pensioners are not excluded from attending a festival event due to the ticket price. The aim is to make the Sunnyside Festival accessible to the whole of the local community.

Anyone aged 60 or over will be entitled to free entry to one festival event of their choice. A full list of these will be published nearer the time.

With only four months to go until the festival, anyone wishing to support the festival should send their cheques, made out to The Sunnyside Festival, to Tony Cottrell (10 East Street, Polruan) or Chris Alexander (Hormand House, Fore Street, Polruan).
