Consummate musician and singer songwriter, Jon Brindley, showcases his latest album The Missing Emotion, "…as
mesmerising and well-crafted an assembly of songs as you'll hear this year." As well as his song writing skills Jon is an accomplished player of guitar, fiddle and piano. Although the focus of the evening will be his original songs, Jon is likely to pull a few other goodies out of the bag, throwing in a fiddling folk reel or a rousing interpretation of a familiar song. He loves to perform and delight his audiences and responds favourably to requests.
"I'm not just a folk musician…now I'm more fluid. I want people to respect me as an artist. I love to entertain people but I also love the fact that I can do anything – I like that dynamic. Much of what I do is 'folk' to my mind though I'm sometimes classed now as a singer/writer." – JB
"It's hard to describe Jon. He is a guitarist of exceptional ability and multi-instrumentalist to boot, being a very able exponent of both the keyboard and violin. He is also an artist who brings intensity and humour into his performances." Phil Chapman review of Watson Hall gig
He will be accompanied by James Budden on double bass, who features on his new album and has played with the likes of Karen Tweed and Jackie Oates.
'James is a musician of jazz sensibilities and folk sensitivity whose double bass inhabits the song.'
Kezia
Cornwall's hotly tipped singer songwriter, whose gentle and breath taking vocals, guitar and piano compliment blues, country and folk in genre. At just 20 years old she has played some of the major local festivals, Relentless Boardmasters 2012, Eden Sessions 2012, and supported Feeder on Lusty Glaze alongside Brother and Bones, now travelling further afield with slots at The Fleece in Bristol and Brittany in December. 2013 will see Kezia travelling the UK with a tour and the release of her EP.
'If one musician is worthy of a special mention this year it's Kezia, the young singer-songwriter from Camborne who astonished all who saw her across Cornwall, with her mature voice and mesmerising performances. Shouts of "our own Laura Marling" aren't far off the mark.'
Lee Trewhela, Cornish Guardian
Winner of Best Female for second year running in the What's On Music Awards 2012
Mica Smith
"I am an 18 year old singer songwriter from Cornwall. I was lucky enough to grow up in a musical family where there was always music being played and sung, so learning to sing and harmonise with my siblings was something that came naturally and as soon as I was old enough to pick up the guitar I began writing my own music, which I'd describe as blunt, contemporary folk ..."
Mica is in the 2nd year of an Extended Diploma in Music at Truro and Penwith College
