Further floods expected this evening as more gales sweep into Cornwall
Cornwall’s coastal communities are bracing themselves for more misery this evening as gale force winds combine with high tides to threaten the coastline.
The high tides of the past couple of days are beginning to decrease but forecasters say winds will strengthen during the afternoon, with heavy rain and severe gales reaching Cornwall by the evening.
Tonight will be very windy with gales, severe around coasts. The heavy rain is expected to ease as the evening wears on, leaving clear spells through the early hours.
Flood alerts remain on many Cornish rivers with around 20 mm of rain falling yesterday on saturated ground.
