Falmouth Docks project cruises forward

A study into the £30 million Falmouth Cruise Project revealed the project can be carried out within the environmental constraints which protect the area.
The Environmental Impact Assessment has taken two years to complete and shows a range of mitigation measures can be put in place to overcome all issues.
A public exhibition of the findings of the assessment at the Maritime Museum has been extended to run until Monday due to public demand.
Members of Falmouth Harbour Commissioners and consultants Royal Haskoning, who carried out the assessment, will be available to discuss the findings between 10am and 5pm tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The project includes dredging the channel, wharf improvements and a new cruise terminal building to attract more visiting passenger liners to the town.
The main findings of the report are that it is possible to dredge a channel for the world's largest liners.
It will not have an adverse long-term effect on the Fal and Helford Estuaries Special Area of Conservation.
The majority of dredged material will be disposed at the existing offshore disposal site with negligible impact.
Any dredged material containing residues from harbour activity will be removed and treated.
