'Most important' food festival in UK is under way
One of the region's fastestgrowing and most picturesque food festivals has got off to a flying start.
Dartmouth Food Festival was "buzzing" yesterday as foodies from across Devon, Cornwall and the rest of the country sampled the best food the Westcountry has to offer.
Organisers said producers and advance ticket sales were both up with many of the headline events already sold out.
Festival secretary Val Bird said: "The venue is fabulous and we have even got clear-sided marquees so people don't miss out on the view.

"We are one of the biggest in the South West now and we are growing year on year.
"Some of the main events are completely sold out – we are really pleased."
This year sees the 11th installment of the event, which runs for three days.
Among the attractions is acclaimed fish chef Mitch Tonks, who regards it as the "most important" in the country.
Admission is free but there are ticketed events.
This year's sees the launch of Eat Your Words, a series of seminars and talks by food writers.
Festival chairman David Jones said: "It's always a little tense at the start but as soon as things start falling into place it soon calms down and falls into regular routine."
