CAMBORNE Toy Library volunteers have been left overwhelmed by the generosity of people who helped to make up the money stolen from the community resource.

As reported last week, a cash box containing about £40 was taken from the Centenary Church-based facility earlier this month. It provides toys for the most vulnerable families in the community.

But following the story in the West Briton revealing the appalling theft, the community rallied around with readers, businesses and other churches making donations worth more than ten times the stolen sum.

Don Gardner, of Christians Together, which runs the library, said: "Soon after the paper came out two gentlemen walked into the library and wanted to give money.

"Then a lady delivered a carful of toys suitable for us, followed by other people and churches wanting to make donations, which not only repaid the money taken but it also allows us to repair the toys we would have not been able to repair otherwise.

"People in Camborne, Pool and Redruth, and the West Briton, have been amazing. Some of them probably gave more than they could afford.

"The response has been overwhelming and it gives us a bank balance for the very first time."

Camborne Toy Library is open on Tuesdays (10am to 1pm), Thursdays (2pm to 4.30pm) and Fridays (10am to 1pm).

    “Excellent news.

Compared to our bickering, expenses guzzling Councillors the Toy Library and the spirit that it embodies shows us a ray of hope.”
