Call for new carnival secretary
THIS year's St Merryn Carnival could be in doubt unless the organising committee can find a secretary.
The event is scheduled for August 17, and the carnival committee is holding its annual meeting on Monday at 7.30pm, at the Farmer's Arms, and is hoping someone will come forward and fill the role.
Committee member Tori Hutton said: "We would all like to thank Kelly Dennis, who has been our secretary for the past few years, for her time and effort, and she will be missed.
"But now we desperately need a new secretary or the carnival may not be able to carry on.

"The rest of the committee will assist the new secretary as much as is needed, and we will also be looking for extra marshals to help out on carnival day.
"It costs more than many think to run the carnival, and it is mainly due to kind donors, such as Rick Stein, who help make it possible.
"We are lucky to have a great community here and always manage to raise a lot through charity boxes and during the parade,'' she said.
