LOOE will be Making Waves in 2011 with the first Looe music festival.

The new festival, which is the idea of local publican and town councillor Billy Martin, is designed to give a boost to the late summer tourism season with a wide spectrum of music, dance, workshops and entertainment planned. It is due to take place on September 23, 24 and 25.

Billy said: "We are keen that local performers are involved and invite bands and performers to contact us directly. We don't want to be in competition with local pubs, restaurants and cafés, so the performances we organise will be restricted to during the day."

"This is not just designed for our visitors, but for local people to enjoy."

There are three sound stages planned at the Rose Garden, seafront and West Looe Quay.

Each venue will be covered with a marquee and have a distinctive ambiance.

West Looe Quay will have a quieter feel with tea dances, classical, Cornish and more traditional music aimed at an older audience.

The seafront will have a family feel with specific sessions and workshops aimed at children. Teens and young people will not be neglected with high energy and hip hop music on the programme.

A comprehensive advertising programme will be produced and it is hoped year one costs will be covered by sponsorship.

Steering group chair Colin Cotton said: "We will be looking for people to help nearer the time to act as stewards and stage hands and would welcome any help and advice on offer."

To sponsor the event contact Billy Martin on 07989 022104 or Edwina Hannaford on edwinahannaford@btconnect.com or 07717 203725.
