88th annual RBL County Conference

Tuesday, January 06, 2009, 11:37

THE 88th annual RBL County Conference will take place in the Council Chamber of the New County Hall, Truro, Cornwall, on Sunday at 2.30pm, playing host to delegates and guests from around Cornwall.

This prestigious event in the RBL calendar is celebrated in fine style with branch standard bearers lining the Council Chamber as the guests and VIPs take their seats.

Group Captain Simon Coy, the County President, will welcome the guest speaker, Peter Cleminson, RBL national chairman. Mrs Doris Ansari, the chairman of Cornwall County Council will welcome the RBL.

Delegates will discuss important motions which may affect the RBL's future and one major item on the agenda will be the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation which recognise the sterling efforts and the support that welfare workers contribute to the RBL throughout Cornwall.

Cups and trophies will be presented to clubs and branches for their contributions to the Legion's work and mission. Miss Michelle Ross, the daughter of a former RBL county chairman, will present the John Ross Cup to Wadebridge for their efforts and progress in 2008.

The annual conference gives members and delegates an opportunity to renew ties with colleagues. As the leading charity safeguarding the interests, welfare and memory of those who have served, and are still serving, in our Armed Forces, it is a golden opportunity to celebrate all that is good about the Royal British Legion.

In addition, with the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Legion's support for our serving personnel and veterans is still as acute today as it was in 1914 and 1939.
